My friends Brett and Mark have been breathing new life into some older games. Recently they’ve been retooling Circus Maximus, a fun chariot racing game from the late 70’s, early 80’s. The first thing they did was enlarge the map. The Original was about 18 inches by 33 inches. The new one is 10 feet by 4 feet and features a removable starting area.. Brett then had 13 sets of chariots and horse teams custom painted, each piece measuring 2 inches by 2 inches. A truly huge game. Over the course of the last couple of months we’ve been playing an epic season style of racing. Each playerer has a stable of 5 drivers and 5 teams of horses.Games Plus in Mount Prospect is the only place with a table large enough to handle this thing. The huge map and huge pieces make this ideal for large groups and tournament play. We had 10 players and the game lasted about 4 hours, not bad for that number of players.
