Folklore: The Affliction UPDATE of the Ridiculous

So, I was prompted to write about Kickstarter a couple of weeks ago, after we received a press release for Folklore: The Affliction being on Kickstarter. Then promptly forgot about it.  Here’s a link. This arrived this morning: Final Days on Kickstarter! “In case you missed it, Folklore: The Affliction is wrapping up on Kickstarter and has blasted through 26 stretch goals! A lot of great content and miniatures have been added, and we are especially looking forward to the advanced story journal created with Adam &…

In defense of Wil Wheaton, even though he’s completely capable of defending himself

Around the same time Marty and I were starting PTG Felicia Day started Geek and Sundry. Will Wheaton, a friend of Felicia’s, proposed a show called TableTop for G&S, the idea behind the show being a group people (celebrities) would get together play a game and talk about what-not. Simple, kind of like “Dinner and a Movie” but with a different board game every week instead of dinner. I was curious but I didn’t understand why anyone would sit around and watch other people play a game…

Kickstarter Fatigue and Risk

I like the idea of Kickstarter. I been a backer since 2012 and backed about 70 projects. I think it’s great that there is a community of like minded individuals out there that can come together to help someone create their dream. With that said, is anyone else out there getting Kickstarter fatigue? Kickstarter  is being used as a place to generate buzz and lock in pre-sales for established companies. I’m not sure I agree with the whole locking in pre-sales thing for every project you come up…

Robotech® RPG Tactics™ at GenCON

As I was wandering through Adepticon’s dealer room I had a chance to see some of RPG Tactics Robotech models up close and personal. RPG Tactics had a successful Kickstarter, bringing in $1,442,312, to fund this game  They weren’t doing any demos while I was there but I did get a chance to talk to them for a couple of minutes. During the discussion they mentioned they were going to be at GenCon and have a playable demo. I did get a look at the…

Game Day Talisman!!

It began the morning of  December 30th. The atmosphere thick with the morning gloom of overcast sky as the legendary Chicago winds  blew, numbing to the core, the hawk was out this day. One by one they descended, drawn from the four corners of the world, compelled by the promise of carnage and plunder. Each seeking redemption for defeats past but not forgotten. Talisman has gone through many iterations as well as companies. Bret’s customized version is a pleasure to play.  Each Realm has a distinctive…

The One Ring

I played The One Ring. I haven’t played a role playing game in about 5 or 6 years. Not because I didn’t want to, mainly because finding a regular group you can gel with isn’t easy. In my opinion a good role playing game is more about the group then the theme or system. When I was younger, playing mostly D&D and Shadowrun, I had a great group. My friend and roommate, at the time, Rich, had a  brother, Mike,  that worked at FASA as…

C2E2

I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve never heard of C2E2. This being its third year, it’s fairly new to the “Con” scene.  ReedPop the folks that bring you New York Comic Con, Pax Dev, Pax, East, Pax Prime and many others put together C2E2 for the Midwest. C2E2 (Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo) happens in April and is a good kick off to con season. The attendance has been rising. In its inaugural year, 2010, 27,500 attended, last year, 2011, 34,000 made it to the…

Game Day – Circus Maximus 10 ft map!

My friends Brett and Mark have been breathing new life into some older games. Recently they’ve been retooling Circus Maximus, a fun chariot racing game from the late 70’s, early 80’s. The first thing they did was enlarge the map. The Original was about 18 inches by 33 inches. The new one is 10 feet by 4 feet and features a removable starting area.. Brett then had 13 sets of chariots and horse teams custom painted, each piece measuring 2 inches by 2 inches. A…
